Countering
Violent Extremism
& Terrorism
Violent Extremism is the violent denial of diversity.
The Khalifa Ihler Institute is a leading voice in the global discourse on countering and preventing violent extremism that may lead to terrorism (P/CVE & CT). Building on our roots as a peacebuilding organization our approach to P/CVE is human-centric and focused on building sustainably peaceful, thriving, and diverse communities.
Irrespective of ideological expression we understand all forms of violent extremism as the violent denial of diversity.
Building on a universalistic understanding of violent extremism allows us to grapple with the root causes of radicalization and develop truly global approaches to prevention that are locally actionable, deployed, and owned.
By promoting healthy pluralism and diversity as an antidote to the complex and harmful dynamics that often lead to violent extremism we also strive to counter hate speech and other harmful behaviors while also promoting democratic values, human rights, and human dignity.
Our work in P/CVE spans the three pillars of the Khalifa Ihler Institute, from research as presented in our Hate Map, advocacy working with institutions such as the UN, OSCE, and the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism and action in our capacity-building efforts and design of impactful and actionable programs in collaboration with local communities.
