Ahkilna!
Leaders like to celebrate youth…
and talk about their value, but in reality, political spaces and institutions remain unattainable for both young women and men as youth’s voices and concerns remain largely unheard. In the first semester of 2021, 40,8 % of Tunisians aged 15-24 were jobless - a grave loss for the country and its young population. Youth’s participation in civic, economic, and political life is an important factor in shaping society to be more inclusive, progressive, and fair.
Where are these young people, what are their concerns and visions, what do they have to say?
The Khalifa Ihler institute seeks to amplify youth voices, especially the ones that are not heard. In our capacity as a global institute promoting tolerance and good governance, we are undertaking a project titled “Ahkilna: a series of discussions” in order to reach diverse youth voices, gather them around topics suggested by youth themselves and listen to their points of view, suggestions, and concerns.
The discussions revolve around job opportunities, the educational system, political and civic participation, and LGBTQ issues.
Young Tunisians are an important part of society and their inclusion in decision making, civic engagement as well as participation in public processes and economic life are key to the betterment of the country. Thus, their output will be essential in drafting a report that can be used to influence decision-makers and stakeholders in order to get them to listen to the people affected by their policies.
As part of this, we kindly ask you to take part in a survey to provide your input as a young Tunisian, on the topics that matter to you.
